Caranavi is the capital of the Caranavi Province in Bolivia. It is located on the Altiplano (high plain) where the Andes Mountains are at their widest. A small group of native farmers, known as colonials, cultivate this unique Bolivian coffee. It is grown on tiny farms at steep elevations that rise to 5800 feet. These devoted farmers constantly work to improve their organic cultivation practices and the quality of their coffees.

The colonials have built "raised bed patios" for drying their beans. This raised bed drying process helps to ensure a more even roast.
